Terms of service

Simulated Shopping at simulated.shopping. Last updated [TO CONFIRM: publication date]. Version 2026-10-16 (the version sign-in and the Keep your Double panel send; a new version changes both).

The short version

  • Simulated Shopping is a simulation: Virtual Buy adds something to your collection, and no order is placed, nothing ships and no money moves.
  • A real purchase happens only at a store's own checkout, after you say yes there, and the store is the seller, not us.
  • It's free [TO CONFIRM: free during the beta], and it's for people 18 and older.
  • What you put in stays yours, we keep it only to run Simulated Shopping for you, and you can export or delete it at any time.
  • Use it yourself, by hand: no bots, bulk reading or scraping.
  • Wishlist value is a sum of listed prices, not money you kept, and nothing here is financial advice or treatment.
  • It's a beta, so things will change and sometimes break, and our liability is limited as far as the law allows.
  • Our privacy policy explains what we collect and why.

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

These terms are an agreement between you and Two Planets Away LLC [TO CONFIRM: legal entity (B32)] ("we", "us"). They cover simulated.shopping, the Simulated Shopping browser extension, the Claude connector, the emails we send and any app we release (together, "Simulated Shopping").

You accept these terms when you create an account, including when you keep your Double from freeyourdouble.com. If you don't accept them, please don't use Simulated Shopping.

2. What Simulated Shopping is

  • A simulation. When you Virtual Buy something, it's added to your collection. No order is placed, nothing is bought, nothing ships and no money moves.
  • Your Double. Your Double pretends to shop, using the lines you kept. Its picks are made up from those lines, for fun. They aren't recommendations or endorsements, and the prices on its receipts are illustrations.
  • Listed prices and product details are read from store pages and can be wrong or out of date. Check with the store before you buy anything.
  • Wishlist value is the sum of the listed prices of the items still in play. It isn't money you kept, money you would have spent or money you have.
  • Not advice or treatment. Simulated Shopping isn't financial advice, and it isn't a treatment for compulsive buying or any other condition. If shopping or spending feels out of control, talk to someone you trust or to a professional [TO CONFIRM: a resources line, for example SAMHSA's free, confidential National Helpline (1-800-662-4357) or a nonprofit credit counselor through the NFCC].

3. Real purchases

  • Nothing is bought unless you say yes at the store's own checkout. Simulated Shopping never completes a purchase for you.
  • When you buy, you're buying from the store, under the store's terms. We aren't the seller, we don't handle your payment, and we aren't responsible for the store's products, prices, delivery or returns.
  • We use no affiliate links and get nothing from your purchase.
  • The Claude connector can prepare a link to a store's checkout for you to review. It can't pay.
  • Nothing we make shops on Amazon or acts on your Amazon account.

4. Who can use it

  • You must be 18 or older. You confirm this when you sign up.
  • [TO CONFIRM: is Simulated Shopping open only in the United States during the beta?]
  • One person per account, with an email address that's yours.
  • You can't use Simulated Shopping if we've closed an account of yours for breaking these terms, or if the law doesn't allow you to.

5. Your account

  • You sign in with a 6-digit code we email you. Anyone who can read your email can sign in, so keep your email account safe.
  • Each device and connector you connect appears in your account, and you can revoke any of them at once.
  • Tell us at once at ben@twoplanets.org if you think someone else has used your account.
  • You're responsible for what happens in your account, unless it's our fault.

6. Your content

  • "Your content" means what you put into Simulated Shopping: your Double's lines, the items you add, captions, notes and decisions. It's yours.
  • You give us permission to store, copy, process and show your content only to run Simulated Shopping for you: to show it to you, make your editions, send the emails you chose and keep backups. This permission ends when you delete the content, except for copies in backups until they age out, as the privacy policy describes.
  • We don't publish your content or show it to other people.
  • Add only content you have the right to add. Don't add other people's personal information without their permission.
  • VOID lines (body, health, intimacy, beliefs, money and age) and lines about kids are refused, wherever they come from.

7. Store names, products and images

  • Product names, images, brands and store names belong to their owners. Simulated Shopping shows them so you can recognize what you added, for your own use.
  • We're not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Amazon or any store.
  • If you own something shown in Simulated Shopping and want it removed, write to ben@twoplanets.org [TO CONFIRM: takedown contact; register a DMCA agent before public launch (M4)].

8. Acceptable use

Don't:

  • use bots, scripts or other automation to read pages, add items or create accounts, or read pages in bulk;
  • scrape, copy, resell or rent out Simulated Shopping or its content;
  • use the reader on pages you aren't allowed to see, or to get around a website's access controls;
  • probe, attack or overload Simulated Shopping, or get around its security or limits (tell us about security problems instead);
  • reverse engineer the extension or the service, except where the law allows it;
  • use Simulated Shopping to break the law, infringe anyone's rights, or harass or harm anyone;
  • pretend to be someone else, or create accounts for other people without their permission;
  • sell, share or transfer access to your account.

We may limit, pause or block use that breaks these rules or puts other people or the service at risk.

9. The extension, the connector and other services

  • The extension is distributed through the Chrome Web Store, and Google's terms apply to that.
  • The Claude connector works inside Claude, which Anthropic runs under your own agreement with Anthropic. We aren't responsible for what Claude says or does. The connector can do only what you approved, and you can revoke it at any time.
  • Links to stores and other websites go to services we don't control, under their own terms.

10. Emails

  • We send the emails your account needs: sign-in codes, security notices and deletion confirmations.
  • Your Double's emails (the Black Friday email on Nov 27 and the returns-day email on Dec 27) go only to people who chose them, and each has an unsubscribe link.

11. Price and the beta

  • Simulated Shopping is free [TO CONFIRM: free during the beta]. If we ever charge for something, such as a printed edition, it will be a clear, separate choice, and we'll never move you to a paid plan by default.
  • It's a beta. Features will change, arrive and go away. If we ever need to reset data, we'll tell you first and give you time to export it.

12. Ending your account

  • You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Every sign-in stops at once, and your data is erased as the privacy policy describes.
  • We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if your use puts other people or Simulated Shopping at risk, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to export your data.
  • We may stop offering Simulated Shopping. If we do, we'll email you at least [TO CONFIRM: 30 days'] notice and give you a way to export your data.
  • Sections 6 (for backups), 13, 14, 15 and 17 still apply after your account ends.

13. Disclaimers

Simulated Shopping is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise that it will always work, be free of errors, or show accurate product details or prices. As far as the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some places don't allow these disclaimers, so they may not apply to you.

14. Limits on liability

As far as the law allows:

  • we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill;
  • our total liability for any claim about Simulated Shopping is limited to the greater of US$100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim [TO CONFIRM: cap amount].

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as liability for fraud, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

[TO CONFIRM: counsel to decide whether to add an indemnity clause; this draft leaves it out.]

15. Disputes and governing law

  • These terms are governed by the laws of [TO CONFIRM: state (B32: Ben's home state, or the state where Two Planets Away LLC was formed)] and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
  • Before bringing a claim, write to us. We'll try to settle it informally within 30 days.
  • If that doesn't work, claims go to the courts located in [TO CONFIRM: county and state]. Either of us may use small claims court instead.
  • [TO CONFIRM: counsel to decide between arbitration with a class-action waiver and courts as drafted.]
  • If the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts or under your local law, these terms don't take that away.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Every version carries its date. If a change matters, we'll email you at least [TO CONFIRM: notice period, e.g. 14 days] before it takes effect, and ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in. If you don't accept it, you can export your data and delete your account.

17. The rest

  • These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Simulated Shopping.
  • If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • If we don't enforce a part of these terms, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.
  • You can't transfer your account or these terms. We may transfer them to a company that takes over Simulated Shopping, and we'll tell you if we do.
  • We send notices to your account's email address. Send notices to us at ben@twoplanets.org.
